WALTHAM, Mass. -- For the sixth time this season, Bentley University forward Jacqui Brugliera (Fitchburg/Wachusett Reg. HS) has been recognized as the Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.
In a 1-1 week, Brugliera averaged 23 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and two assists while posting her seventh and eighth double-doubles of the season.
The six-foot freshman overcame a rough shooting night to put up 14 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 64-43 win over UMass-Lowell on Wednesday, a victory that clinched a share of the NE-10 regular season championship for the Falcons.
On Saturday, she poured in 32 points, tying the most ever by a Bentley freshman, and also had 13 rebounds and three steals in an overtime loss at Franklin Pierce.
The productive week boosted Brugliera's season averages to 14.6 points and 8.8 rebounds. Although she didn't become a starter until the season's 11th game, she ranks fifth in the NE-10 in rebounding and seventh in scoring, with her 364 points currently the fifth highest total ever recorded by a Bentley freshman.
Bentley, 21-4 overall and ranked 17th nationally in Division II last week, can claim sole possession of the NE-10 championship and the top seed in the upcoming conference playoffs with a victory at Stonehill College Wednesday night in the regular season finale.
